Traditional Values. Practical Skills. Lifelong Growth.

About

Building confidence, capability, and character through authentic Japanese martial arts.

Hozan Jujutsu is a community-focused dojo dedicated to helping everyday people develop practical self-defence skills, confidence, resilience, and lifelong personal growth. Our training is rooted in Tsutsumi Hozan Ryu Jujutsu, a traditional Japanese martial art preserved through the respected de Jong lineage, one of Western Australia's longest-standing martial arts traditions.

Unlike many activities that rely on athleticism, speed, or physical strength, Jujutsu teaches students to use leverage, timing, balance, positioning, and technique to overcome challenges effectively. This makes training accessible and beneficial for people of all ages, sizes, and experience levels.

Our classes combine authentic martial arts principles with modern teaching methods, providing a structured pathway that develops practical self-defence, fitness, body awareness, discipline, and mental resilience. Students learn progressively through hands-on training, building confidence and capability one step at a time.

More than just learning techniques, our dojo is built on a culture of respect, encouragement, and continuous improvement. We believe every student has the potential to grow, and our supportive community helps people challenge themselves, overcome obstacles, and achieve goals both on and off the mat. This cooperative approach to learning has been a cornerstone of the de Jong tradition for decades.

Whether you're looking to learn self-defence, improve fitness, gain confidence, return to martial arts, or begin a new personal challenge, you'll find a welcoming environment where beginners are supported and lifelong learning is encouraged.

His teaching combines traditional martial arts values with modern coaching methods, creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for students of all ages and experience levels.

As a Shodan practitioner in Tsutsumi Hozan Ryu Jujutsu, Jeremy is part of a lineage that traces its roots to classical Japanese martial arts and the renowned de Jong tradition, one of Western Australia's longest-standing martial arts lineages. Training focuses on the intelligent application of leverage, timing, balance, and technique, enabling people of all sizes and abilities to learn effective self-defence without relying on strength, speed, or athleticism.

Jeremy's martial arts journey has taken him to Japan, where he experienced the traditions, culture, and training methods that have shaped generations of martial artists. This experience reinforced the values that underpin authentic Japanese martial arts: respect, humility, perseverance, and lifelong learning, principles that continue to guide his teaching today.

Holding a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Jeremy brings professional instructional expertise to every class. His structured approach helps students understand not only how techniques work, but why they work, building genuine skill and confidence through progressive learning and consistent practice.

Jeremy also served as an Australian Army Unarmed Combat Instructor, where he trained soldiers in personal protection, situational awareness, and decision-making under pressure. This experience provides a practical perspective on self-defence and reinforces the importance of remaining calm, composed, and effective in challenging situations.

With a Master of Leadership, Jeremy believes martial arts training extends far beyond physical techniques. Every class is an opportunity to develop confidence, discipline, resilience, and character while becoming part of a supportive community committed to continuous improvement.

As a husband, father, leader, and martial artist, Jeremy is passionate about creating a dojo culture where students feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to achieve their goals, whether they are seeking self-defence skills, improved fitness, personal growth, or a lifelong martial arts journey.

"My goal is simple: help people become more confident, capable, and resilient through authentic Japanese Jujutsu, while fostering a community built on respect, support, and continuous learning."
